Our story

Why The George Project exists.

The George Project began with a simple belief: every animal deserves a dignified, compassionate end of life, and every person deserves access to a veterinarian's care — no matter their circumstances.

Our founder with George — the horse who inspired it all.

The George Project exists because of Dr. Laura Bylina's beloved horse named George. Throughout the years she had him, there were times when, without the generosity of others, she simply wouldn't have been able to afford to keep him — to make sure he stayed safe with her, cared for, and loved until the very end. That kindness is the reason he was able to live out his life by her side. She wants to give that same generosity back to others, in his name.

Dr. Laura is a veterinarian and equine practice owner. She wants to help — but in practice, she can only discount or give away so much while still being able to afford to live. The nonprofit exists so she can offer reduced-cost services to horses — and eventually dogs and cats — and the people who love them, without worrying about how it will affect her own personal bills. It's the structure that makes sustained, meaningful help possible.

That's the heart of The George Project: compassion backed by a veterinarian's judgment, made accessible through community support. The project is being built in phases — starting with low-cost, dignified euthanasia and evaluations for horses, and growing toward vaccination clinics, a full-service pet clinic, and a horse rescue. Each step is made possible by the generosity of people who, like those who helped Dr. Laura keep George, believe no animal should go without care.
